Managing Your Tags And Audiences

Tags in Happy Grasshopper give you the flexibility to organize your database  your way. Whether you’re categorizing by behavior, campaign, event, or just about anything else — tags make it easy to find and segment your contacts fast.

This guide will walk you through:

  • What tags are and how they work
  • How to create and manage tags
  • Best practices for tagging
  • How tags work with audiences

📌 What Are Tags?

Tags are flexible, custom labels you can assign to contacts to help organize and filter them. Unlike audiences (which are broad categories like Leads, Sphere, or Past Clients), tags can represent anything you want:

  • “Open House – 123 Main”
  • “First-Time Buyer”
  • “Investor”
  • “Referred by Agent”
  • “VIP”
  • “Pet Owner” 🐶

You can assign  multiple tags to a single contact and use them to:

  • Filter contacts
  • Target messages
  • Group people by behavior, interests, or engagement

🛠️ How to Create & Apply Tags

✅ To Create a New Tag:

  1. Go to the Tags section under Management
  2. Click “Add Tag”
  3. Name your tag (e.g., “Spring Event 2025”) and save

🧍 To Apply Tags to a Contact:

  • Open a contact’s profile and add tags directly
  • Apply tags in bulk from the All Contacts list
  • Use custom forms that apply tags automatically when someone submits

🔎 How to Filter by Tags

When viewing  All Contacts, use the filter menu to sort by one or more tags. This is great for sending messages to specific groups or checking the size of any tagged segment.
