Adding Contacts Manually

Clicking View/Add Contacts on the left menu, then from your View Contacts page select the Add Contact button. From the Add Contacts page you will be able to enter contacts manually (one by one), or in bulk with either an Excel document (.csv, .xls or .xlsx) or from your address book.

Manually Entering a Single Contact:

You’ll find fields for First and Last Name, Phone Number, and Email - an email address is all that’s needed to send a message. You’ll also see the Tags field and the Audience drop-down box. Audiences and Tags are used to group and identify your contacts. Based on your industry and account type, you may have several audiences available to you.

Tip: You can select one or multiple tags if it applies, but only one Audience may be selected. When it comes to organizing your database, we recommend that you arrange Contacts based on the Audiences provided in your account — Example: Past Clients, Sphere, Leads, Other Agents, Vendors, and Recruits.

Additionally, you can also unsubscribe a contact from receiving any further messaging by clicking the "Unsubscribe" box. 

Don’t forget to save your work!

Adding Contacts in from a Bulk Upload:

You can also add contacts in bulk with either a .csv, .xls or .xlsx file (Excel spreadsheet). To do this, you’ll want to click on the Choose File button and select the correct contact file from your computer. You’ll want to make sure the file has a row with the following headings: First Name, Last Name, Phone Number, and Email. You also want to make sure each of these categories have their own columns for proper uploading.

Once you choose a file and click Upload, you’ll be taken to a new page where you can further identify your contacts for proper import into Happy Grasshopper. You’ll notice a dropdown box that comes up for each field - this is why you’ll label your spreadsheet columns! The name of each header will appear so you can match it up correctly to the fields on the page.

You can also assign tags on this page to categorize your contacts. Any tag or Audience selection will apply to all contacts being uploaded from the spreadsheet.

Additionally, you still have a few checkbox options available:

  • Unsubscribe - unsubscribes all the contacts in the upload in bulk.
  • Update Existing Records - Any contact with a matching email address that already exists in your account will have their First Name, Last Name, and Phone Number updated during this upload with the information from the file. 
  • Make Proper Names - This will capitalize the first letter of the first and last name.

(Tip: Files with a large number of contacts may take longer to upload.)

Importing Contacts From Address Book

Here, you can import contacts from various address books. Clicking on one of the provider icons Happy Grasshopper supports, you’ll be welcomed with a pop-up box from a third-party system giving you further instructions. We currently support the following providers for address book import: Yahoo, MSN, Google, AOL, Plaxo, Mac, and Outlook.

You will be prompted to a page that informs you your list is being uploaded. You will receive an email notifying you once the upload is complete.
